Starch Recovery

SmartFlow Technologies has provided systems to recover granular starch released during potato processing. Previously customers allowed the starch to be flushed into the plant waste water stream. The high starch levels in the waste water created high BOD/COD environments which resulted in fees for processing the waste water. Even with the current starch recovery technology in place, SmartFlow was able to recover 100% of the starch that was not captured by the aging technologies. The result was that the customer eliminated waste water fees, captured food grade starch that can be sold, and turned large volumes of waste water into water for reuse in their processes.

When applied to starch containing waste or process streams, starch recovery can provide a number of benefits.

Food Grade starch recovery for resale  COD/BOD reduction
Reduce/Eliminate penalty/fees for waste stream composition  Generate water for reuse

A few examples of starch recovery with ConSep® filters at the lab level are below. The videos demonstrate the capability of the ConSep® platform rather than a particular customer application. The ConSep® platform is linearly scalable, so these and similar product recovery from waste water processes can be scaled to any production volume.
